Class Tuesday, November 2, 2011

1.  Finish latest CSS class project.  Today is the final day.  You will be graded on whatever is completed by the end of the period, no exceptions!

2.  Final project of quarter to be assigned today.

3.  Reminder: Medford High will be on tonight at 10:30pm on the National Geographic channel.  I will try to have a copy of this to show you in class sometime in the near future if you don’t get a chance to catch it or don’t get the station.

Final Project Details- in place of quarterly exam

You will create two separate webpages, using HTML and CSS, and will link them together.  The topic is your choice.  Keep in mind you’re only creating two pages so you don’t want to get too broad or too complicated with your topic.

Some ideas:  yourself, a recipe for a food you like and/or can make, a band/movie/TV show you like, a hobby, a sports team, a club or group you belong to, a country, state, or city you’ve visited (or want to visit)….

Requirements:

1.  I have to approve your topic so check with me first

2.  You must use both HTML and CSS to create the pages

3.  The pages must be linked to each other in a way that makes sense

4.  You must include the following:

– at least one image

– at least one link

– at least one headline

– a new favicon- go to http://www.favicongenerator.com/

5.  Be creative!  This is your chance to choose what you want to do and how it should look.

To Begin:

1.  Come up with your idea and run it by me

2.  PLAN- gather any information, photos, videos, links to other website, and other content you will need.  THINK about how it will be organized on the page.  Maybe even sketch it out on a sheet of paper in your notebook or even use Word or PowerPoint to create a small outline.  Consider how the the two pages will be connected to each other and what kinds of content will go on each page.  Is there anything from home (i.e. pictures) that you’d like to bring in to be included?

3.  Download myindex.html.  Note: there is no CSS layout on here (i.e. like the two-column layout you had for your last project).  If you feel strongly about having a layout and want to give that a try, let me know and I’ll help you choose one and set it up.

4.  Open up myindex.html in Notepad and in Firefox and begin!  Note:  I’ve created spots for text, links, and headlines.  It’s up to you to change it to what you want and to format the text, colors, etc.

5.  Details matter!  Don’t forget to put in your description, keywords, and to change your title.

6.  Second page:  I recommend you copy and paste your myindex.html code into a new, blank Notepad file when you’re ready to begin working on your second page.  That makes things easier for you and helps you keep things consistent.  Then just change the content in the <body> section and save it under another name.

7.  As always, I’m here to help, so don’t be shy if you’re stuck!
