 Artificial Intelligence Overview

  • Artificial intelligence (AI): “the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.”
  • Some examples:
Social media– feeds curated by AI as you interact with Instragram, Snapchat, etc.
Amazon Echo– this device is trained to recognize human voices and respond to their questions by using key words and commands to find answers
Automated customer support– online chatbots that answer your questions
Apple iPhones (8 and up)– facial recognition to unlock your phone; a camera that detects what kind of photo is being taken and tries to distinguish people from the background
Netflix– uses your view history and ratings to suggest things to watch via “advanced predictive technology”
