Get Your Game Design On…Now

Both speakers were able to teach themselves how to program and code because they were super-interested in and motivated by making something cool like a game.

You have 45 minutes (or however much time is left in class) to experiment with making a game.

You can either follow a tutorial, sketch an idea for a game, or create a piece of a game, like a character or scene.

You MUST have something to show at the end of class!!  You must be able to talk about whatever you made and explain why you did it.

Follow tutorial to create game or create own game (choose 1):

a.  A Scratch game

b.  Build Flappy Bird in your browser

c.  Modify RoboRampage

d.  A game idea simply using paper and markers

e.  Check out the Game Designer, Game Developer, and Gamer sections here; there are tutorials or activities in each one.

f.  Something with a tool from this page (see the Games section):

https://www.mhswebdesign.com/cool-stuff/

g.  You might notice that some of you have Game Salad on your computers; feel free to try it!  If you don’t have it and want it, let me know so I can download it for you.

h.  Anything else you can think of

Sketch an idea for a game (choose 1):

a.  A game app wire frame (use the paper template or try FluidUI.com or Mozilla Appmaker to illustrate your idea)

b.  A game idea simply using paper and markers

c.  Check out the Game Designer, Game Developer, and Gamer sections here; there are tutorials or activities in each one.

d.  Anything else you can think of

Create a piece of a game (choose 1):

a.  A graphic or image that would be part of a game (either existing or one you make up); you can create it on your computer or with paper & markers

b.  A 3D game character using Play-Doh (again, either for an existing game or one you have in your head)

c.  Anything else you can think of

Whatever you want- must be done by end of period!  Everyone will participate in a very quick show and tell at the end of class.
