For Android- Xray Prank (thanks, Damien!)

1.  Extra credit opportunities

a. It’s never too late- suggest an app or website, earn extra credit!

b. Also, if you have ideas for our next class discussion with Mr. Tuden, feel free to tweet @MrTuden, email him (ctuden@medford.k12.ma.us), or stop by his office.

c. Tweet interesting and relevant articles, comments, or ideas to @MHSCoders

2.  Continuing our work with The Boston Globe NIE app

Working individually or with a partner, pick one of the activities below and sketch how it would look on a phone or tablet, using one of our mobile templates.

a. Your teacher has asked you to read an article and you will be discussing it in class.  You want to take notes and highlight certain sections of the article.  How can an app help with this and what would it look like?

b. You have to do a project about a certain time period for your history class and want to use The Boston Globe’s archives to recreate what a newspaper would have looked like from that time period.  Again, how can an app help with this and what would it look like?

c. You have to create a Tweet, Vine, Snap, or Facebook post about an article you just read.  What would be helpful to use from the article to do this and how could the app help?

d. You are breaking a story apart into its elements- people interviewed, outside details and information provided, links to other content, & media included (photos, videos, etc.).  Your teacher wants you to examine these elements and talk about why the reporter included them, what brings the story together, and if you’re left with further questions.  What would be helpful in an app to accomplish this task?

e. You want to browse the news and find stories of interest but don’t have a ton of time.  How can you find stuff you like easier?  How can the app be used to do this?

f. Your search on Tom Brady from www.bostonglobe.com returned 500 results organized from most to least recent.  You’re creating a news profile and need to find the info you need quickly and easily; how can you better organize the search results?  What would this look like in the app?

g. An activity of your own choosing- how would you like to use The Boston Globe in school to help you complete projects, better understand something you’re learning, or make connections to what’s going on in the world outside of school?

Post-it reflection: What activities are you the most interested in and why?
