Today’s goals:

– Update your portfolios

0.  Today’s featured website:

1.  Hits, Page Views, and Unique Visitors

You will answer these questions both at the beginning and end of class:

a. What would you want to brag about more for your website- your number of hits, page views, or unique visitors?  Show of hands!

Guesses:

Just write down some numbers- what do you think are the page views, unique visitors, and hits for the school webpage?  Prize for closest guesses!

2.  Let’s look at the school website’s stats

We’ll check out the numbers and discuss how hits, page views, and unique visitors are different.

3.  Other web statistics platforms

Your web host will likely have its own internal measurement system.  If not, there are other options like the following:

Google Analytics (free)

Quantcast (free)

Chartbeat (not free)

4.  Top websites

What do you think are the top websites with the most visitors and page views?  Why?

Let’s make a quick list before we look up some stats.

Check out the following site.  Does anything surprise you?  Enter a URL at the top right to see its ranking.  Where does the Medford Public Schools website rank?
