1.  Of interest:

10 programming languages to learn this year

How to be a web developer

Did you know you could learn anything?

2.  How about sending an email to your “future self” on the last day of class (pick some date in June)? What would you say? What do you want to learn this year?

3.  Guiding questions for the year- what do we really want to know?

Ex.  What makes a great website?  What is the difference between a website and an app?

You are going to come up with ONE question each.  You are going to make a QR code that, when scanned, reveals the question.

Step 1- Come up with a question

Step 2- Make a QR code (go to https://www.the-qrcode-generator.com/).  Feel free to experiment with colors and size but be aware that it might not work (see Step 3)

Step 3- Test your QR code using a scan app on the class iPad.  When scanned, the QR code should reveal your question.  If this doesn’t work, go back to Step 2 and revise your QR code and test it until it works.

Step 4- Download your QR code by clicking on PNG file free (the first box below)

Step 5- Email me your QR code so I can print it out and hang it up in our classroom.  My email is agoldsberry@gmail.com.

Step 6- Think- have you seen QR (a.k.a. quick response) codes before?  Where?  Why might they be useful?

4.  Websites we like?  What websites do you like?  Why?  What apps do you like?  Why?  Talk to the person next to you and make a list.  Then we will share with the class.

5.  Boston Globe project

The Boston Globe News in Education

Our major class project this year is to create an app for high school students and teachers to use in the classroom featuring content from The Boston Globe.  This is the first time something like this is being done and the project is wide open for us to be as creative and innovative as we want!

We just had a discussion about websites and apps we like and why.  Let’s now consider this in the context of school.  If you could use an app- any app- in the classroom, what would it be and why?
